Motorsports Hall of Fame America

Project Completion

January 2017

Introduction.

In 2015, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America moved from Novi, Michigan (its location since its inception in 1989) to Daytona Beach, Florida, home of Daytona International Speedway and the Daytona 500. A much larger, more elaborate museum was created to tell the stories of the inductees and to showcase some of their vehicles and artifacts. Lexington partnered with designer JRA to transform the previous Daytona USA exhibit into the present-day Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.

What we did.

Lexington removed, refurbished and reinstalled eleven hanging motor vehicles, and replaced all of the graphics and signage with new images and marquees relative to the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. Some highlights of the refurbished vehicles include Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird, which established the land speed record of 1935, the 1914 Stutz Race Car, a Formula One Racing Plane, a Westlake Speedway Motorcycle, raced by American Bruce Penhall in England, and a Barrel racer. In addition, the Petersen Theater Entry was completely remodeled with a new entry marquee, glass railings, millwork and graphics, creating a colorful, inviting experience for Hall of Fame visitors.

How we did it.

Lexington worked with JRA as a Design/Build partner due to the aggressive schedule to refurbish and revitalize the existing motor vehicles, elements, and displays and turn the new home of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America into the thrilling attraction it is today. Overall schedule for the main exhibit was a mere 3 months, with the Petersen Theater opening four months later, in time for the first Hall of Fame Induction ceremony in its new home.

Conclusion.

A visit to the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America is included in the ticket price of a Daytona International Speedway tour, providing guests with a rich history of motorsports, and its champions. It was a great honor for Lexington to help tell this history and to honor the people who helped revolutionize American motorsports.
